Clarify the reason for postponement
You may arrive expecting egg collection followed by a fresh transfer, then be advised to freeze suitable embryos for later use. Ask why the plan has changed. A freeze-all approach can be recommended for a clinical reason, including concern about ovarian hyperstimulation, or offered electively. Those situations need different explanations. The HFEA notes uncertainty about whether elective freeze-all improves the chance of a baby for everyone. Request a discussion of the expected benefit in your circumstances. The fact that you have already paid for accommodation should be acknowledged, while the clinical decision remains based on your care.
Understand the immediate next steps
Ask what still happens during the current stay, when you will receive embryology updates and how your recovery will be reviewed. Delaying transfer does not remove the need to follow advice after egg collection. Confirm whether the team expects further appointments before you leave and what symptoms need assessment. Get a written account of the revised plan so you do not have to reconstruct it from separate calls. If you need more time abroad, identify who can help with practical arrangements. The treating clinician should explain health decisions directly, even when a travel coordinator handles bookings and payments.
Price and plan the later visit
A later frozen transfer may involve additional monitoring, medicines, storage and another journey. Ask the clinic to separate these costs from charges already paid and explain which parts of the original quote still apply. Establish what needs to happen before the next cycle can begin and whether a review can be completed remotely. Ask how freezing and thawing uncertainties are explained for your embryos. You may also need time to adjust emotionally to a changed timetable. A revised pathway is easier to manage when the reason, recovery requirements, costs and future decision points are written down before you travel home.
Questions to take with you

- What care is still needed during this stay?
- Which costs move to the later transfer?
