Locate the reason for the recommendation
Replacing a back tooth in the upper jaw can involve the space beneath the maxillary sinus. A sinus lift raises the sinus lining to create room for bone and implant placement. Ask the surgeon to explain your scan in relation to the exact tooth or teeth being replaced.
This is an elective addition to the plan, so discuss the alternatives that are relevant to your mouth. Cambridge University Hospitals describes options that may include different implant arrangements, a bridge, a denture or accepting a gap. Their suitability depends on the individual assessment; an alternative on a leaflet is not automatically available to everyone.
Separate the stages on paper
A sinus lift may take place before or alongside implant placement. Ask which approach is proposed and why. Your written plan should identify what happens during the first operation, what remains to be done and which review will determine the next step.
Imagine that a booking was originally organised around receiving the final teeth during one holiday. If a sinus lift changes that sequence, revise the itinerary and financial agreement before proceeding. Ask how temporary teeth, follow-up examinations and any additional stay would be handled, including who would make the arrangements if you need more time.
Give travel advice a named owner
Discuss the journey with the surgeon who will perform the sinus procedure, including flights and any planned diving or strenuous activities. Request instructions specific to your operation rather than extrapolating from ordinary implant advice. Keep a copy available offline so that you can consult it without searching through booking messages.
Ask what symptoms need prompt assessment and where that assessment can happen after departure. If the surgeon wants a local clinician involved, establish that contact while you still have time to share records. Clear responsibility is especially helpful when a concern might otherwise be passed between dental and sinus services.
