Returning home after limb lengthening

Arrange a clinical handover before planning the journey.

Understand the decision

Ask which milestones must be reached before the team supports travel. Then confirm who will provide continuing reviews at home and whether that clinician has accepted the handover. A promise of remote availability does not explain access to examination or imaging.

Put it into practice

Collect the operation record, device information, imaging and rehabilitation plan. Discuss transport assistance and accommodation changes with the care team. Build flexibility into the trip. If your local support cannot deliver the required follow-up, raise that issue before treatment rather than leaving it to the end of your stay.

Keep the bigger picture in view

Cosmetic stature lengthening is a major orthopaedic undertaking. A decision needs an individual assessment of physical health, expectations and the support available over a prolonged recovery. A promised height gain cannot substitute for that assessment.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. What milestones determine travel readiness?
  2. Who has agreed to continuing care at home?
  3. Which records and images must accompany the handover?
