Understand the decision

A staged plan can be difficult to compare with a one-visit advertisement. Ask the practice to distinguish the dates they can schedule from the healing milestones they need to assess. You should understand which steps might move and who makes that decision.

Put it into practice

Book travel with enough flexibility to respond to the clinical plan. Keep a checklist for what you need after each visit: written instructions, records, emergency contacts and the date of the next review. Discuss how work or caring responsibilities could be managed if a visit changes. A realistic calendar is more useful than an optimistic promise.

Keep the bigger picture in view

A treatment proposal should explain the condition of each tooth and the least invasive reasonable options. Keep a copy of the tooth chart and proposed work so an independent dentist can discuss the same plan with you.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

For your next consultation

Questions to take with you

  1. Which stages depend on a review?
  2. Can parts of follow-up happen near home?
  3. What should I do if the next visit is delayed?
