Understand the decision

A penile prosthesis can be considered for erectile dysfunction in selected circumstances. It is a different discussion from cosmetic enlargement. Mayo Clinic notes that penile implants do not make the penis larger than its size at surgery. Ask what problem the proposed device is intended to address.

Put it into practice

Discuss non-surgical options, device information, infection risk and future care with a urologist. Ask about training in use of the device and who would support you at home. Keep the device record and operation summary. The consultation should centre your function and priorities, not a promotional size claim.

Keep the bigger picture in view

Appearance concerns and symptoms affecting sexual or urinary function deserve a confidential discussion. A qualified urologist can help separate medical needs from marketing promises. You do not have to choose a procedure to have your concerns taken seriously.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. What problem would this device treat?
  2. What other options remain available?
  3. Who provides device support and future follow-up?
