The development
The European Commission-funded MoveS network held a webinar on 9 July 2026 about the relationship between social-security coordination rules and the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive. Its published summary describes discussion of usage figures, legal developments and issues including telemedicine and insurance arrangements. These are related frameworks with different requirements.
Why it matters for medical travel
For a patient, the practical next step is to identify the route relevant to their own circumstances before paying for treatment. Ask your insurer or National Contact Point what authorisation, documents and reimbursement conditions apply. The fact that a provider is in another European country does not establish that a particular treatment bill will be covered.
