Understand the decision

Stature lengthening involves gradually separating surgically divided bone while new bone forms. The process demands repeated assessment and rehabilitation. Ask a specialist to explain the sequence in your case, including what happens when progress differs from the original plan.

Put it into practice

Think in terms of a complete care period rather than a brief overseas stay. Discuss mobility, accommodation, work and assistance. Ask what would make the team slow or stop lengthening. A proposed number of centimetres should never replace a discussion of function, uncertainty and your ability to complete rehabilitation.

Keep the bigger picture in view

Cosmetic stature lengthening is a major orthopaedic undertaking. A decision needs an individual assessment of physical health, expectations and the support available over a prolonged recovery. A promised height gain cannot substitute for that assessment.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. What are the stages in my plan?
  2. What would make you stop or change course?
  3. What support will I need throughout recovery?
