The development
The European Commission published an EHDS frequently-asked-questions update on 26 March 2026. Its separate regulation overview describes phased implementation after the regulation entered into force in March 2025. Major obligations apply later, with different types of data following different timelines. Publication of explanatory material is not the same as immediate availability in every clinic.
Why it matters for medical travel
For patients travelling today, ask the treating provider what records can be shared now, in what format and with whom. Keep your own copy of essential information. Our reading is that future improvements may help continuity, but current care should be organised around capabilities that the relevant providers have actually confirmed.
