DHI and sapphire claims: translating the marketing

An instrument label is only one part of the procedure.

Understand the decision

Advertisements may emphasise a placement tool or blade material. Ask the clinic to explain the proposed technique in ordinary language and identify which part of the procedure the label describes. Do not assume every branded term represents a completely different treatment.

Put it into practice

Ask what evidence supports an advantage for someone with your hair characteristics. Compare the clinical plan, team and follow-up using the same questions across providers. Keep promotional claims separate from the points your surgeon has confirmed. If a benefit is described as guaranteed, ask what that guarantee means in measurable terms.

Keep the bigger picture in view

A hair restoration consultation should start with a diagnosis and a long-term plan. Ask the clinician to document your baseline, the proposed approach and the alternatives you discussed, including the option of waiting.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. Which stage does this technique change?
  2. What evidence supports the claimed benefit for me?
  3. Would the overall plan differ with another instrument?
