Dental guarantees: read the conditions carefully

A long guarantee is only useful when its terms are clear.

Understand the decision

Treat a guarantee as a document to investigate. Ask what it covers, who provides it and what evidence you must supply if you need to use it. Separate the cost of a replacement item from the cost of the appointments needed to fit it.

Put it into practice

Read requirements about maintenance visits and where they must happen. Ask about travel, accommodation and any local assessment before returning abroad. Keep invoices and the version of the terms you accepted. If you cannot explain the guarantee in a few plain sentences, request clarification before it becomes part of your decision.

Keep the bigger picture in view

A treatment proposal should explain the condition of each tooth and the least invasive reasonable options. Keep a copy of the tooth chart and proposed work so an independent dentist can discuss the same plan with you.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. What is specifically excluded?
  2. Must follow-up happen at your clinic?
  3. Who pays travel costs if a repair is needed?
