Combining cosmetic procedures: ask about the whole plan

Convenient scheduling is not a complete reason to combine operations.

Understand the decision

If a package groups several procedures together, ask why that combination is appropriate for you. Request a discussion of the overall operation and recovery, rather than evaluating each procedure in isolation. The assessment should include your health, support needs and priorities.

Put it into practice

Ask whether staging the procedures is an option and what would be gained or lost by doing so. Make sure you understand the total cost and what happens if part of the plan changes. A discount should not determine the extent of an operation you have not had time to consider.

Keep the bigger picture in view

Describe the change you hope for in your own words and ask the surgeon to describe the limitations in theirs. Keep the consultation summary separate from any sales package, and leave time to reflect before committing.

Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.

Questions to take with you

  1. Why combine these procedures in my case?
  2. Would staging them be reasonable?
  3. What could lead you to reduce the planned operation?
