For informed conversations with your healthcare team. This guide is not personalised medical advice and has not been individually reviewed by a clinician.
Understand the decision
Create a simple list of follow-up tasks with a named person or service next to each. Include clinical reviews, nutritional support, tests and medication questions. Ask both the overseas clinic and any home provider to confirm what they have agreed to do.
Put it into practice
Keep copies of the operation record and discharge advice with that list. Record how appointments are arranged and paid for. Review the plan before travelling home so unresolved responsibilities can be discussed while the treating team is available. A handover should describe an actual arrangement, not an assumption about access to care.
Keep the bigger picture in view
The decision about bariatric treatment belongs within a broader medical and nutritional assessment. Discuss the support you can realistically access at home and make that support part of the plan before choosing where to have treatment.
Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.
Questions to take with you
- Who has accepted each part of follow-up?
- How are results shared between teams?
- Which appointments do I need to arrange myself?
