For informed conversations with your healthcare team. This guide is not personalised medical advice and has not been individually reviewed by a clinician.
Understand the decision
Ask the clinic to describe routine reviews, urgent concerns and possible further treatment as separate situations. Find out who makes clinical decisions in each case. A broad statement that aftercare is included does not tell you where or how it happens.
Put it into practice
Get the contact route, opening hours and relevant fees in writing. Ask whether a clinician near home has agreed to see you and how records will be transferred. Keep emergency arrangements separate from routine customer service. Clear responsibilities are especially useful when you are tired, uncomfortable or worried after treatment.
Keep the bigger picture in view
Describe the change you hope for in your own words and ask the surgeon to describe the limitations in theirs. Keep the consultation summary separate from any sales package, and leave time to reflect before committing.
Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.
Questions to take with you
- Who handles urgent clinical concerns?
- Where will in-person reviews happen?
- Which costs are included if a complication develops?
