Understand the decision
Hair loss has different causes, and a transplant is not the starting point for every person. A dermatologist may examine the scalp and discuss the pattern and timing of change. Bring a history of symptoms, previous treatments and relevant medications to the consultation.
Put it into practice
Ask what the clinician knows, what remains uncertain and whether further assessment is needed. Separate the question of diagnosis from the question of where to travel. If surgery is suggested, ask how it fits alongside the longer-term management of your hair loss. A clear diagnosis makes later comparisons much more meaningful.
Keep the bigger picture in view
A hair restoration consultation should start with a diagnosis and a long-term plan. Ask the clinician to document your baseline, the proposed approach and the alternatives you discussed, including the option of waiting.
Before making a commitment, take the written proposal to a qualified clinician who can assess your own circumstances. Use the questions below to record answers and identify anything still unresolved. Keep the plan, contact details and agreed next steps together so you can revisit the decision without relying on memory.
Questions to take with you
- What is causing the change in my hair?
- Do we need more assessment before deciding?
- What are the reasonable alternatives to surgery?
